Summary[]

Kokon goes up to Mari, saying that she refuses to leave Mari alone. Mari does not think Kokon cares about her, but Kokon challenges her, asking if she is happy to be a puppet. Mari responds that it does not matter and promptly runs away.

As Mari runs away, she begins to reflect on everything. Something always goes wrong every time she tries something, her mother gets upset, her father dies, and it was a mistake to try falling in love in the first place. She wants someone who she can depend on, so she uses her beauty to secure a mate who would protect her, just like her mother. And since Prince Charming with his white horse does not exist in real life, anyone she can rely on would be fine. Anyone would do as long as they do not hurt her, even if it is not real love, she simply does not want to get hurt or cry anymore.

Finally, Mari comes to a stop at the top of a set of stairs, and the pursuing Kokon questions if Mari is really okay with giving up on Seki. And she questions if Mari is really fine with just letting the feelings she holds for Seki fade away. Mari reflects further; she knew it was wrong and that she always makes mistakes and comes to regret it. As she turns around weeping, she realizes that it would not have hurt so badly if she never fell in love. However, her head spins every time she falls for Seki, and she no longer knows what to do.

Kokon offers her help, though she might not be qualified to do so, and she is also taking advantage of the mechanism of love herself. Love is just a mechanism, there is no Prince Charming. Love is tainted by greed, and life is not a fairy tale where everyone gets to live happily ever after. However, that is merely one way people try to be happy. It is fine to fall for a calculated love, or one filled with greed or even if it is downright in the dirt, as long as they are happy at the end. Kokon then asks again whether Mari would be happy with the choice forced upon her. As Mari contemplates on the answer, she suddenly slips back and fall down the stairs.

Fortunately, she is caught by Seki, Kokon and Kengo at the bottom of the stairs. Seki then states Prince Charming might not be real, but Mari has the three of them as her friends. And she is willing to wait a bit more, he will be the Prince Charming for her. Seki is being serious and considers getting a white horse for real. Kokon states life is full of failures, and there have been times when she wished she made a different decision but what matters is to keep moving forward, therefore if she needs help, they are there for her. The question now is what does Mari want to do. For Mari, she wants to be able to make her own decisions.
