Effort (努力 Doryoku) is the thirtieth chapter of the manga series Renai Daikou, written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Nishizawa 5mm. It was released in issue #14, 2024 of Weekly Young Jump on March 7, 2024. [1]
Plot[]
At the agency office, Kokon asks who is sitting in front of her. Kengo responds in his usual manner, asking if she has forgotten about him in one month. Based on his mannerisms, Kokon thinks it is Kengo, but she remains confused. She rationalizes that even if Kengo went into the army for a month, he would not have lost that much weight in such a short time. Therefore, the only explanation was that he had been on a proper diet. Kengo brushes it off, simply saying that he has been moving a lot under the sun lately. Kokon then verbally confirms that it is indeed Kengo in front of her, but she cannot fathom the idea and thinks it's an elaborate prank. She grabs his arm to check and is surprised to find it slim and muscular.
In Kengo's mind, he has been preparing for this day for a long time. It is all part of the plan to make her notice him. He then makes an excuse and leaves before Kokon can satisfy her curiosity. And it has gone according to his plan, as Kokon is left alone, wanting to ask more. After dwelling on the matter, she concludes that he has a girl he likes, and this is all part of a strategy to present himself as a romantic interest.
Later, Kon contacts Mari, and the two catch up on recent matters. Mari asks about her trip to the Arctic, but Kokon changes the subject and talks about Kengo without mentioning his name. Kokon is clearly still bothered by him as she tells Mari about his weight loss. When Mari asks if that does not make her feel something, seeing him become attractive, Kokon cannot help but point out his negative qualities. Overall, Kengo's plan has been very successful, but he overlooked one fact...
Mari then tells Kokon that she has been helping a friend with his diet, and she tells Kokon about it. Kokon then asks what kind of girl this guy likes. This is the flaw in Kengo's plan; he does not know that Mari and Kokon know each other.
