Plot[]

Mari spots Seki entering the club building. Curious, she decides to follow him to find out what he is doing. She and Kon are stunned to see him heading into the manga club. Upon this revelation, Mari shares her belief with Kon that delinquents are otaku in nature. While she would not be surprised if Kengo were a member of a manga club, she believes Seki must have an ulterior motive for joining and decides to take a peek inside. To her surprise, Nobuko is also a member and is talking to Seki. This led Mari to believe that her friend had become Seki's latest target. Kon questions her line of logic, asking if she is simply jealous. Mari responds by saying that she is merely looking out for her friend, who is being tricked by someone shallow. Kon disagrees with this assessment, as based on her experience, Seki is not that type of person.

Later, Mari asks Nobuko about Seki. Nobuko explains that she believes Seki is interested in her, and while she fears extroverts in her class making fun of otakus like her, she still acknowledges that Seki has treated everyone as their own person. She finds Seki amazing, and as a result, she is trying to be unafraid. Nobuko then turns the question back onto Mari, asking if she is afraid of Seki.

Nobuko's question has left Mari deep in thought, with Kon suggesting that those words have hit close to home, and she baits Mari into reconsidering Seki. Mari responds by saying that they are not compatible and repeats her mother's advice of not getting close to guys who are rich, handsome, or flirtatious, as they will betray her. Kokon points out that she is scared and questions if it is right to avoid getting involved because one is scared. Mari counters by asking if Kon is simply trying to steer her away from Kengo, but nonetheless, she agrees to talk to Seki.

Mari goes up to Seki and asks him why he joined the manga club. Seki is surprised, as he assumes Mari is going to continue avoiding him. He acknowledges that he has joined the manga club after being urged by a friend to do so. His friend advised him that by interacting with those different from him, he can come to understand those who are different from him, and that by interacting with those at the manga club, he might understand Mari better as well. Mari is alarmed by what Seki has said, but due to her prejudices, she accuses him of lying and says that he is only doing it to get close to other cute girls. Seki responds by saying that he will quit the manga club if that is her wish, but Mari is confused. So Seki confesses that he likes her and that he will keep trying until she likes him again.
