Love Story (ラブストーリー Rabusutōrī) is the seventeenth chapter of the manga series Renai Daikou, written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Nishizawa 5mm. It was released in issue #47, 2023 of Weekly Young Jump on October 19, 2023.[1]

Plot[]

At the manga club, Seki is asked to draw a manga. He tries turning it down at first because he's not good at drawing, but after some encouragement from the other clubmates, he reluctantly does so. Unfortunately, everyone is in unison, believing that it was terrible. So they suggest he should try writing instead.

Seki reports back to Kengo, explaining how he is going to end up writing. Kengo is pleased with this turn of events as it will help Seki express his inner self, but the problem is that Seki is unsure what to write about. Kengo suggests he should try writing something about his interests, but Seki can only think of Mari at that moment. Based on that, Kengo recommends he try writing a romance manga, but Seki rejects the idea, finding it embarrassing. He believes that people will come to believe the story will be perceived as how he falls in love. Kengo counters by saying that people would be able to differentiate between reality and fiction, and besides, Seki has lots of love experience to draw on. However, Seki doesn't think his experience is particularly interesting, so he asks Kengo to tell his story instead.

Seeing no choice, Kengo reluctantly tells his story. One day during his time at junior high, the girl he sat next to was late for history class. She then asked to borrow his notebook, but when she returned it, she also left a drawing of a Kitsune and a Tanuki. They changed seats not long after, but every time he opened that book, he would always look at that page. He thinks to himself that if he tried talking to her more, maybe a certain event wouldn't have happened. And years later, when they ran into each other, she didn't remember him, but he also thinks that girl was way out of his league.

Seki decides to use Kengo's story as the basis for the manga, and everyone at the club loves it. Nobuko even asks if that's how Seki fell in love. Kengo, meanwhile, can't help but feel annoyed by this turn of events.
